February, 2001
Hello Seth Readers!
Nice to make your acquaintance, if you’re new to this site; and nice to see you again, if we’ve met before. Another year has slipped by since I wrote you last, another year filled with change—but then, what else is new? Didn’t Seth say something once or twice about change not being optional?!
When I announced the decision to take SNI inactive after Stan Ulkowski—my love and partner in SNI and life—died in 1999, none of us knew exactly what that would mean to the networking that had been built up over the seven years of SNI’s existence and the eleven years prior, during the heyday of Dr. Maude Cardwell’s Austin Seth Center. Uncountable hours of work had been donated by many dozens of people over that time span, work aimed at keeping a forum of communication and expression open for Seth readers. And now, after eighteen years, the official lines of communication were to be broken.
Does it surprise any of you to know that life continues to flourish after SNI? Somehow I doubt it! Flourish in this case is defined as a gradual but definite emergence of new Sethian meeting grounds and Seth-oriented projects being undertaken by individuals. For your enjoyment and background, I’ll highlight a few for you.
DATA BASE, BRASS RING BOOKSTORE,
PERSPECTIVES
If you’ve read any of the letters
I previously wrote, you know that when SNI closed, Mary Rouen and Michael
Steffen stepped forward and took over SNI’s Brass Ring Bookstore and the
maintenance of our Seth-reader data base. Without the continual updating
of the data base—the only one of its kind in the world—there soon would
have been no way to reach thousands of Seth readers whose addresses had
been painstakingly recorded for years. And without the Brass
Ring Bookstore, Seth readers would have had no one place to shop for
Jane’s books or be made aware of other products being produced that incorporate
Seth/Jane’s ideas.
But Mary and Michael didn’t stop there. Last year they introduced Perspectives, a newsletter that also displays their Brass Ring products. Perspectives is free; it is also a highly professional piece of literature that takes a substantial amount of money to produce. Please do help Mary and Michael continue to offer us all of the wonderful services they provide by buying their products. A donation to the cause wouldn’t hurt, either!
CONFERENCES
Michael Steffen, Jo Helfrich, and
Dr. Paul Helfrich formed a company called NewWorldView,
with the purpose of offering forums for the discussion of conscious creation.
NWV’s first full-fledged conference is April 26-29, 2001, in San Diego, and their second is November 8-11, 2001, in New Haven, CT. They’re titled “Keys to Creating a Fulfilling Life.” Many of the old SethNet
crew are helping out in various ways, which the NWV partners appreciate
enormously. I’ll be a speaker, as will Michael, Paul,
Nancy Walker, and Bettie Kielty, among others. But, like the SethNets,
you won’t sit for long listening to people talk at you. The conference
will be interactive and personalized. And the fun after hours will blow
you away!
Another conference is in the works for 2001, also. It’s being created by a group that spun off after the Rocky Mountain Seth Conference closed its annual doors in 1999 after seventeen years. Its called the Colorado Seth Conference, and will be held September 16-19, in Colorado Springs. Their web site is http://home.earthlink.net/~cjfunk3/COsethCON.html. Their phone number is 303-220-0772, and their e-mail is cjfunk3@earthlink.net.
While it’s already come and gone, Seth 2000 deserves mention here. After I announced the closing of SNI at SethNet ’99 Elmira, I asked if anyone would consider creating a conference to replace the SethNet scheduled for October, 2000, in New Haven, Conn. Not an insignificant task! But Jay Foley and Kerin Forsyth (now Foley) stepped forward…and the rest is history. Many Seth readers chipped in to make S2K, as it came to be called, creative, inspiring, well-run, tons of fun—and sold out. A wonderful job by wonderful people. Eventually, Jay and Kerin say they’ll post pictures taken at S2K on their web site, so do check in every once in a while to see if this very busy couple has found the time to do just that.
NEW BOOKS
If you haven’t read Sue Watkins’
latest book, Speaking
of Jane Roberts: Remembering the Author of the Seth Material. I
highly recommend you do so! She’s done an incredible job of framing her
relationship with Jane in a context that is touching, humorous, gritty,
and at times uneasy. You’ll learn a great deal about Jane in this book,
things you won’t find anywhere else. And you’ll learn a great deal about
Sue, too. You can contact Sue through her publisher, Moment Point Press.
MPP, founded by the sister/brother team of Seth readers Sue and Randy Ray,
has created individual bulletin boards for each of their authors. Go to
their site (momentpoint.com) to hear
what Sue Watkins has to say about herself, Jane, and any number of other
topics. You can e-mail her at Watkins@momentpoint.com.
Speaking of new books, I’m very pleased to mention my latest to you, also. It’s titled The Book of Fallacies: A Little Primer of New Thought. My daughter Cathleen Kaelyn was my creative and research partner, so she shares credits with me on the cover. In the book, we list many fallacies—or conventional ideas that have been accepted as truth—and offer in their place new thoughts that change the way we view reality. Fallacies is available through Amazon.com, Brass Ring Bookstore, and the chain stores. Like Sue Watkins, Moment Point Press (my publisher, also) has created a bulletin board for me to fill as I wish. Time will determine what I will do with it, but I’ll probably list my speaking engagements and some of the radio shows I’ll be on this year (there will be dozens). You can e-mail me at Dahl@momentpoint.com.
AUTHOR SEMINARS
NewWorldView has decided to expand
beyond full-fledged conferences, and break ground into one-day seminars.
They’ve teamed me up with Dr. Fred Alan Wolf, author of The Spiritual
Universe and Mind into Matter (and seven other books), and starting
in May we’ll launch a 15-city author seminar tour. Fred, a theoretical
physicist, will have the morning session. He’ll do a multimedia presentation
about the influence of the mind, or consciousness, on structure in the
physical world. In the afternoon, I’ll take over and talk about the practical
implications of creating one’s own reality (big surprise, right?). Check
the NewWorldView web site for cities
and dates. Hope to see some of you on the road!
E-MAIL LIST
It’s hard to believe it was only
two years ago October that SNI launched its e-mail list, under the auspices
of administrator Dr. Paul Helfrich. It’s even harder to believe there are
almost 1000 people on the roster to date! It's not SNI's list now, it's
Paul's; and it's Paul who has grown it to its amazing size and quality.
It takes a certain personality to manage such a project. Paul not only
has the experience to handle large undertakings, he has the finesse it
takes to work with people. To get information or register, visit Paul's
web site at sethnet.org/email.htm.
ON-LINE SETH CLASSES
Dr. Helen Stewart, a long-time
Seth reader, launched the University for Metaphysical Studies several years
ago. It’s housed in Santa Fe, but much of its classes and courses are offered
over the Internet. Because of Helen’s background, you can bet you’ll find
some great Seth classes as part of the curriculum. Jeffrey Sax of Belgium,
another Seth reader, is in the final stages of visa preparation, and plans
to move to Santa Fe to become Helen’s right hand person very soon. Do check
out the fantastic web site that Jeffrey designed at umsonline.edu.
Their e-mail address is information@umsonline.edu.
YALE ARCHIVES
If you haven’t heard of Mary Dillman,
and are planning on visiting the archives at Yale University where the
Seth material is stored, you’re missing a real opportunity! Several years
ago Mary left her job and hometown of St. Paul, Minn., and moved to within
blocks of Yale, in New Haven, Conn. She’s taken it upon herself—and for
the good of all of us—to organize the contents of the archives, and to
do research on the material. She’s helped numerous people as she’s gained
her unique experience, including Sue Watkins, when Sue was writing her
latest book. Mary is at Sterling Memorial Library, the home of the archives,
virtually every week day. She said she’d love to talk to you if you want
to contact her. Her e-mail address is marydillman@earthlink.net.
And her home address is 437 Orange St., 3rd Floor, New Haven, Conn. 06511.

AN UPDATE ON ROB BUTTS
We celebrated Rob’s 80th birthday
with him in Elmira during SethNet ’99, so that makes him 82 this year.
You wouldn’t believe the energy of the man! He paints, answers fan mail,
prepares more Seth/Jane/Rob material for Yale’s archives, and edits books
in the final stages of preparation for publishing…among other things. One
of the “other things” that is an integral part of his life is his wife
of one year, Laurel Davies Butts. Laurel has been in Rob’s life since around
1985, and on New Year’s Eve, 1999, they got married! Their deep love for
each other is obvious, and very touching to see. Rob and Laurel moved to
Sayre, Penn. (Rob’s hometown, you’ll recall), in 2000, although they still
have the Hill House in Elmira. Their new address is 400 Olive Street, Sayre,
PA 18840. Rob loves to hear from folks, so don’t be shy about writing him.
SNI WEB SITE
How about a hats off to James Thames,
our venerable web master! One of many volunteers who have helped SNI immeasurably,
James had been diligent in keeping the site alive and updated. When SNI
went inactive, James cut the rather large site down to a shadow of its
former self—a helpful, very much appreciated shadow. Thanks from all of
us, James!
Well, folks, that’s about it for now. With all the Seth-related activity planned for 2001 by various groups, I hope your schedule and mine will mesh long enough to run into each other somewhere, some time. Stan left this reality two years ago. Little did I know then how life would open and flow in new directions for me. Meeting Seth readers for the first time, and reconnecting with Sethian friends from today and the past, is a large part of that flowing…a part I cherish. I look forward to such pleasures for the rest of my life.
Warmly,
Lynda Dahl
